About my work
A kiss, a taste, a touch, two lips, two tongues, two beating hearts, two hot and pulsing bodies joined. This is what my erotic work is about: trying to capture love, passion and lust through the uncompromising simplicity of black and white scalpel cut paper.
I started to cut into paper about a year ago having spent many years as a frustrated textile artist. Those first paper cuts were a kick at the stable door, against what had been and a reaction to a narrow education. Since then I have broadened out, still cutting paper but making work that explores the human condition of what it actually feels like to be alive through images of figures, text and landscape.
My recent erotic work is taking subtler steps into what is erotic for me. Folds of material of the duvet aren't erotic in themselves but become so when connected to the memory and experience of that bed and my body and my mouth. The leather boots too, though simple objects in themselves, remind me of how I feel when I wear them. of a hot-blooded sexual woman. I am currently working on a series of explicit cuts based on Indian erotic miniatures as well as more based on The Song of Songs.
I regularly exhibit and also work to private commission. Please see my website: www.vanessastone.net for more information about my work.
