Sathom (Thomas Steup)

Born in 1967, resides in Berlin, Germany. Having studied Biology and currently finishing his studies in Comparative Religions, he is an autodidact; starting out with black-and-white, penciled and inked drawings, he has, over the last few years, turned to digital art more and more, and is now producing most of his images entirely electronically.

Combining drawing skills developed over a period of about 20 years with the full range of digital image creation and manipulation techniques, to think like a drawing artist is a foundation of his way to work.

In addition to the pin-up art, which constitutes about 90% of his work, he also is involved in web design, computer game graphics design, illustration and portrait art. Current self commissioned projects include a fetish fashion line dealing with the idea to have transparent, double-wanded suits filled with liquids of different properties (coloured, fluorescent, etc.), exploring the possibilities of this concept.

Originally influenced by erotic Fantasy pin-up art and being involved with the Gothic scene, his pieces combine Gothic, Fantasy, Fetish and BDSM elements to create a world of erotic fantasy his characters live in, freely exploring their imagination as they please. Always kept in mind is the tension between this imagination and reality - thus, the persons shown not only are pure and innocent in their approach to their own desires, but also self-confident and independent, not offering themselves to the viewer, throwing him back on himself rather than satisfying his voyeurism.
