Sally Lochridge

Sally Lochridge was born June 11, 1957 in Mexico City (Mexico). Although she is a North American citizen, due to her father’s career, she spent her childhood and adolescence in Buenos Aires (Argentina), Bilbao (Spain), The Hague (Holland), and Valencia (Venezuela).
''It is extremely gratifying to finally find a context which does not require me to either justify or defend the erotic aspect of my work.'' - Sally Lochridge
“I prefer to suffer, than to feel nothing,” states Sally Lochridge, an artist who without emulating anyone can be considered an expressionist because of the way she translates emotional experiences into her work. She focuses directly on the feelings and creates an empathic situation, not because of what she depicts, but rather because of what she implies.
Sally’s technique is immediate and vigorous serving both as a form of redemption and survival. It is an expression of sentiments drawing attention to a repressive environment and discharging anger. Her work is unintentionally autobiographical springing from the need to communicate and resulting in liberation.
The vehicle Sally Lochridge uses to express emotions is eroticism, an aspect of human experience characterized by its intensity and emotional complexity. It is a liberated and direct statement which paradoxically describes restraint with startling effect.
In summary, Lochirdge’s art can be described as erotic, which avoiding stereotypes of this genre, represents a yearning for intimacy. It is an emotional interpretation of sexuality; spontaneous, sensual, and moving.
