Robert Van Brustum
Robert Van Brustum was born in 1952 in Belgium. Entirely self taught; Robert processed his first black & white film and made his first darkroom prints in 1993.

Jazz-blues-rock concerts and street photography became his first points of interest as he became increasingly passionate with the study of the play of light on a subject. In 1996 Robert undertook his first studio shoots and was amazed by how one could.”manufacture” ones own light.

It was about this time that Robert became an admirer of the work of photographers such as J.L. Sieff, J. Saudek, J.F. Jonvelle, P. Lindberg, B. Brandt, … and in 1998 he completed his first nude studio shoot. All his models are just regular people, “the girl next door” type. For some of them it was their first photo shoot ever. Models are invited to collaborate and input their creativity and ideas. For Robert these are as equally important as his.
His aim is to create nude and erotic pictures in which the nudity doesn’t come first, being but one of the elements within the image. He favours the non academic approach to artistic nude photography but likes to instill a poetic flavor into the pictures. He wants to create artistic nude photography, with a “rock & roll” attitude.
