Jamie McCartney

Achieving great things in the world of erotic art, Jamie’s lifecast sculptures feature as key displays in London’s Amora. Winner of the Erotic Signature sculpture prize and featured in the book, The World’s Greatest Erotic Art of Today, his stock, as they says, is rising…
Lifecasting, put very simply, it is a sculptural process, which begins by taking a mould directly from the body to produce a kind of 3D photographic sculpture. In the right hands it is a very erotic medium. His degree in Experimental Studio Art and years as a prop maker on feature films have given Jamie a maverick but exacting approach to his work.
Never shy of controversy, Jamie continues to explore the boundaries of what is possible and what is acceptable. His latest gallery works, which rely heavily on the use of taxidermy, fur and body parts are characteristically controversial.
Whereas his contemporaries mostly work in plaster, Jamie uses a huge range of materials. “Plaster looks great,” he says, “ but it’s hopeless for longevity. Bash it once and your artwork is over.” Private clients tend to opt for a plaster-like resin or cold cast metals but some have been very daring and experimental. Jamie will also happily remove what you don’t like about your body and enhance what you do. “Portraiture, after all, is about beauty,” he says.
Jamie has studios in London and Brighton and also offers a mobile service.
