The girls, along with 8 other women, bared their bottoms to Jamie in order that he could turn them all into works of art. Jamie has established himself as the UK’s leading lifecasting artist, making amazingly lifelike portraits for hundreds of satisfied clients. Lifecasting is the process of taking a mould directly from the body and then using that mould to create a cast, which is an exact replica of the person. Jamie worked for many years as a sculptor and prop maker on feature films making casts of superstars like Jackie Chan, so Trinny and Susannah were in good hands. He produced the ten bottom casts in what is known as ‘resin bronze’ – real bronze powder imbedded in resin and polished to bring out the lustre of the metal. This highly specialised process is a legacy of the techniques he used to make armour, weapons, props, body parts and corpses for films.

The studio has been the location for much activity over the past months with a host of celebrities getting parts of themselves cast for posterity. Located upstairs at the JAG open studio/gallery on Madeira Drive, Brighton Body Casting is right at the forefront of new sculpting processes, which are bringing portraiture to the masses. Now anyone can get the celebrity treatment and have a sculpture of themselves or their loved ones made, without breaking the bank. Bottom casts start at only £300 in plaster and £700 for the resin bronze shown in the program.

It’s not just beautiful body sculptures that Jamie is making, though. He is fast becoming Brighton’s enfant terrible and has been creating a quite a stir since setting up his studio here only last year. TV stations have been queuing up to film him working on his latest, highly controversial, sculptures. He has taken lifecasting and film sculpting techniques and produced compelling and highly realistic sculptures in the vein of the Damien Hirsts and Ron Muecks of this world. In the Autumn his work will tour to Berlin, Amsterdam and London, launching him firmly onto the European art scene. Jamie seduced America last year, wining the Erotic Signature International sculpture prize and having one of his sculptures accepted into the permanent art collection at the World Famous Kinsey Institute.

Jamie’s sculptures are currently on show in the Birds and Bees group show at the Chelsea Arts Club in London, at the IMPURE ART gallery in Brighton and at his studio gallery, also in Brighton.
