pedal powered road car on show in Brighton to London Eco Car Rally Saturday
21st June.
PHOTO CALL - Saturday 21st June 9.30am. JAG Gallery, Arch 283a Madeira Drive, Brighton BN1 2PSInternational award winning Brighton sculptor and Association member, Jamie McCartney, will be peddling his green machine, Car-bon Miles, a car converted to pedal-power, from outside his studio on Madeira Drive at the start of the Brighton to London Eco Car Rally. Also competing will be 'Scrap Heap Challenge’s' Lisa Rogers.
He turned this vehicle into a moving artwork for the UK's first Art Car Parades On last year, winning the prestigious Kyoto Award for the most environmentally friendly car. He converted an old East German Trabant, the most polluting car ever, into a pedal powered vehicle to create the least polluting car ever. In the 50th anniversary year of the Trabant, the intention was to highlight the problems facing us with increasing vehicle numbers. Using humour to attract attention to the issue is my way of getting the public to consider the impact of cars on our environment, our health and our future.
To realise his ambitious his Art Car, Jamie enlisted the help of local engineer James Fleming. Their blend of art and engineering has produced a transport phenomenon. See them demonstrate the car on Madeira Drive before they set off on the Rally…
